How it works

Initial setup

When you set up your account, you'll be asked to do two things:

  1. Create a word list. A word list is a type of checkpoint: a single sheet of numbered words. Print it (or write it down if you have no printer), and put it somewhere away from your bed: the kitchen, the bathroom mirror, the letterbox. You'll need to enter some words from this list to prove that you're out of bed in the morning.
  2. Add a credit card. A credit card is needed for adding a stake, and for your monthly fee (if you choose to continue after the trial).

The night before

  1. Create a commitment. I will wake up tomorrow at 5:00 AM.
  2. Set the rules. I will have 10 minutes to prove that I'm awake.
  3. Set your stake. If I don't prove that I'm awake within 10 minutes, charge my card $25.
  4. Set your regular alarm for 5:00 AM. WakeUpEarly.com is not an alarm clock.

After a small window of time, your commitment will automatically lock. Once locked, it can't be cancelled, and the only way to keep your stake is to check in on time.

Make a commitment: what time will you wake up? 5:00 AM is selected.

In the morning

Your alarm goes off at 5:00 AM. You have 10 minutes to retrieve the words from your checkpoint and check in (example only).

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Log in at wakeupearly.com on your computer or phone.
  2. The app asks for two words from your word list by number. You walk to the sheet, find the words, and type them in.

Enter your words before your deadline, and your stake is safe. Fail to do that and we'll charge the stake to your card.

Well done. You're now up, out of bed, and ready for the day. Repeat as needed.

Check-in open: 8 minutes 57 seconds left to enter word 19 and word 2 from your Kitchen word list.

Make your first commitment tonight.
